Apple has revealed its latest iPhone model.
Branded as the "biggest leap" in hardware since the 2007 original, the iPhone 4 will offer several new features and a redesign.
The squarer look has front and back glass casing that is more scratch resistant than previous models, as well as steel sides that double as integrated antennas for improved reception.
At 9.3mm, it is 24% thinner than the 3GS, includes noise-cancelling microphones and a three-axis gyroscope to improve tilt controls for applications and gaming.
Battery life has improved by seven hours on 3G and ten hours on WiFi and video, with music lasting at around 40 hours and 300 hours on standby.
The 'Retina Display' system increases the screen resolution to 940x420 pixels and offers a contrast ratio four times higher than the 3GS.
The camera has added LED flash, five times digital zoom and five megapixels in picture quality. It also records video at 720p at 30fps. A portable version of iMovie is coming to the device.
A front-facing camera is to support FaceTalk, an Apple-developed open standard for mobile calls. The feature will be WiFi-only at launch and supported by mobile networks from next year.
It will also launch with the iOS4 operating system that adds multitasking, folders and iAds, and will be available for free for the 3GS, 3G and iPod Touch.
The iPhone 4 will be on sale June 24 in the US, France, Germany, UK and Japan, and in a total of 88 countries by September.
16GB and 32GB models in black or white colour schemes are to be priced at $199 (£137) and $299 (£206) respectively. UK pricing has yet to be announced.

The iPhone 4 camera shoots gorgeous 5-megapixel photos and stunning HD video. And with its advanced backside illumination sensor, it captures beautiful images even in low-light settings. The built-in LED flash does double duty. When you’re taking pictures, it works as a flash. When you’re shooting video it can stay on to light up the scene. And on the front of iPhone 4, the built-in camera is perfect for making FaceTime calls and shooting self-portraits.

Orange unveil first UK network iPhone 4 prices
Orange breaks cover and takes leap with first iPhone 4 tariffs
Orange has become the first UK network to unveil its tariffs and price plans for the upcoming Apple iPhone 4 as the company throws the first blow it what will undoubtedly become a competitive price war.
Despite pre-orders for the new Apple handset kicking off yesterday (June 15th) UK network providers remained tight-lipped about the prices they would offer the new device at. Apple, however, unveiled their official iPhone 4 prices, giving the 16GB model a £499 price tag with the larger 32GB device costing a hefty £599.
However, Orange has today confirmed that it will offer the iPhone 4 on three different plans, pay monthly, business tariffs and as a pay-as-you-go handset. On PAYG, Orange will undercut Apple’s prices, charging £480 for the 16GB models and £570 for 32GB of iPhone 4 goodness. The PAYG handsets will be compatible with Orange’s five animal themed content plans, each of which offer users different benefits ranging from unlimited texts (Dolphin) to free evening and weekend calls (Canary).
Standard £35 per month contracts with Orange will give wannabe iPhone 4 owners 600 inclusive minutes and unlimited texts on a 24-month deal they will also have to cough up £119 for the 16GB iPhone 4 or £219 for the 32GB edition. On an 18-month contract these initial handset costs jump dramatically to £229 and £319 respectively. Pay monthly customers looking to get their hands on a free 16GB iPhone 4 will have to shell out £75 every month for two years.
Business iPhone customers will be able to get a 16GB iPhone 4 for just £24.68 on a 24-month £40 per month contract that offers 1200 inclusive minutes and 200 texts.
All contract customers, as well as having a choice of a white or black iPhone 4 handset, get what Orange describe as ‘unlimited’ inclusive data. In reality, however, the unlimited data is capped at a somewhat disappointing 750MB.
