Can't remember if I posted this in the previous thread, so I'll post here just in case:

DVD: Bad Day at Black Rock (1955) ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

If you have never seen Bad Day at Black Rock then do yourself a favour and check it out. CLASSIC Spencer Tracy movie.

BD: The Running Man (1987) ~ ~ ~ ~

I'm not sure whether I'm viewing this through rose tinted glasses since this was a childhood fav. There's loads of cheesy one liners, it's riddled with plot holes and the films view of the future looks suspiciously eighties, BUT they're not the reason I watch this. I watch this to see Arnie kick some ass in a violent, fun flick, and that's what I get.

"Killian, here's your Subzero, now plain zero!"

"I live to see you eat that contract, but I hope you leave enough room for my fist because I'm going to ram it into your stomach and break your god-damn spine!"

It sure ain't Shakespear. By that, I of course mean that Shakespeare could never write such fantastic dialogue. ;)

DVD: The Birds (1963) ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

There's so many great set pieces in this that are just begging to be studied.

DVD: Magnum P.I.: The Complete Fifth Season (1984) ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The fact that it has taken me over four years to watch this season isn't a comment on it's quality, but rather an end result of buying to many DVDs.

DVD: A Night at the Roxbury (1998) ~ ~ ~

It really deserves two stars but I bumped it up a grade because the soundtrack is so nineties!

Cinema: Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief ~ ~ ~ :1/2:

This is a fun little movie, quite entertaining and has some good ideas behind it but it's nothing that's going to blow you away and definately feels a bit too 'teeny' at times. I preferred the latter part of the film.

DVD: Goodfellas ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

THE perfect mob movie! :)

DVD: Raging Bull ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

I'm studying Martin Scorsese at the moment and really enjoying it. This was my first viewing of Raging Bull and it had me engrossed. It isn't the most comfortable film to watch but can really appreciate the cinematography at work here.

DVD: New York, New York ~ ~ ~

This isn't quite as clean cut and edgy as some of Scorsese's other work but it is still quite enjoyable and interesting to follow. The story itself is quite poignant.

And of course, Liza Minelli's "New York, New York" performance is a defining moment of the film!

DVD: The Time of Their Lives (1946) ~ ~ ~

A film made during one of Abbott and Costello's infamous feuds which results in them hardly appearing together onscreen. This is unfortunate because one of the main reasons I watch an Abbott and Costello movie is because of there chemistry and quick fire banter - that element is lost here. However what the film does feature is one of the best plots in any Abbott and Costello movie, therefore the jokes come naturally rather than stopping things dead for a gag. My favourite part The Time of Their Lives is definitely the ending which I thought was very sweet and unusual.

TV (HD): Burn After Reading (2008) ~ ~ ~ ~

Enjoyed this a fair bit. Colourful, interesting typically Coen-esque characters and a fun plot. I'll pick it up on Blu next time it goes on sale.

DVD: For Love or Money (1993) ~ ~ ~

I think Michael J. Fox gives a really strong performance. This is amazing when you consider that he had recently discovered he had Parkinson's Disease whilst making the film and had begun to abuse alcohol. Which meant him turning up on set with terrible hangovers. He covers this subject in his autobiography Lucky Man. Great read, I highly recommend it. :^

DVD: The Rookie (1990) ~ ~ ~ ~

You say the words 'Clint Eastwood' & 'cop movie' in a sentence and people automatically think Dirty Harry. I think that's the problem that The Rookie has always faced - people automatically draw comparisons to Dirty Harry. This is a problem because with The Rookie, Eastwood isn't attempting to hit such lofty heights. A fairer comparison would be to the filmographies of Schwarzenegger, Stallone, Van Damme and Seagal. The Rookie is a silly, over the top, Hollywood action movie. If you can accept it on those terms, then what you have is a fun buddy cop movie, with some great lines, that stars Charlie Sheen and Clint F'n Eastwood!

The reason I re-watched this is because it's being re-released on BD and I wasn't sure whether it was worthy of an upgrade (after a not so enthusiastic reaction I had to it a few years back). I'm glad to say I really enjoyed it this time around and will happily pick-up the BD.

DVD: Doc Hollywood (1991) ~ ~ ~ ~ :1/2:

Always loved this film. It's quite unusual because it contains a couple of F-bombs and some female nudity yet it's rated PG-13 (or a 12 here in the UK!). It's actually a very sweet movie with a nice story. One of Michael J. Fox's best, I think.

I really like the chemistry between Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds here! Some really funny moments, a film that I can get many watches from. :)
