DVD: The Hard Way (1991) ~ ~ ~ ~

One of my favourite lesser known buddy cop movies.

BD: True Romance (1993) ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Terrific direction from Tony Scott with one of Tarantino's sharpest scripts. The scene with Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken is lightening in a bottle. In short, one of the best from the nineties. A must see for all!

DVD: Brother Bear ~ ~ ~ ~

This is one of my favourites from the later of the Disney 2D animated films - I love the storyline, the message and of course, the songs are perfect and really help to move the story along. It's no classic but a very enchanting and enjoyable adventure!

BD: True Romance (1993) ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

This is my second viewing within the last 24 hours. Love everything about this, great script, great action, superb three dimensional (and memorable) characters, terrific score, superb transfer and great audio. :^ :^

DVD: The Lady Vanishes (1938) ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Another classic Hitchcock, I'm unsure whether I prefer The 39 Steps or The Lady Vanishes out of his British catalogue. Terrific movie though and one that I've seen more times than I care to count! This is the first time I watched the Criterion two-disc re-release of the movie. It looked and sounded really, really good. In fact it looked better than The 39 Steps does on Blu-ray.

DVD: Notorious (1946) ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Another of Hitchcock's greats. Loved it even more this time around, so many great and iconic sequences. It's also got one of my favourite examples of the McGuffin.

BD: Cool Hand Luke (1967) ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

One of Newman's best, for me it's tied with Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid as my fav movie from him.

DVD: Holiday (1938) ~ ~ ~ ~

Looked the movie up on IMDB and thought this trivia was interesting:

  • Eighteen months before Clark Gable in Gone with the Wind (1939), Katharine Hepburn says "damned" in a Production Code-approved Hollywood movie. The occurrence isn't gratuitous: She's recounting her experience in amateur theatrics and, in camp style, performs a fragment of Lady MacBeth's "Out damned spot" sleepwalking line from Shakespeare.

The first profanity in a Hollywood movie!

BD: True Romance (1993) ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

This movie was amazing, the audience is bombarded with some of the coolest action scenes whilst all along telling a story that will keep you captivated wondering where it will all lead too and how it will end. It has everything going for it - a fantastic script, superb cast line-up giving some of their most memorable performances and a beautiful score. Also, very re-watchable for a number of reasons! :^^:

DVD: Johnny Bravo (1997) ~ ~ ~ ~

Difficult one to score this. It's a kids show, so it's not going to be Citizen Kane but yet it's quite an entertaining show even to an adult. It doesn't take any steps that I would consider bad, nor are there any bad episodes here. I think four stars is therefore a reasonable mark. Hopefully season two isn't far off!

BD: Moonraker (1979) ~ ~ ~ ~

I've defended Moonraker several times on here in the past, so I won't repeat myself, suffice to say I think it's a very enjoyable entry in the Bond film canon.

The BD looks STUNNING, and I mean STUNNING. In fact I think it's the best looking Blu-ray I have EVER seen and I don't say that likely. Yes, I think it looks even better than new releases like Avatar. Real demo material.

I believe the fact that it looks so good stems from Lowry's restoration of the Bond series. Nine Bond pictures where selected for a 4K restoration, Moonraker was one of those nine. The rest of the Bond series was restored at 2K.

BD: Green Zone (2010) ~ ~ ~ ~ :1/2:

Green Zone is a brilliant conspiracy thriller that has a different edge to normal war movies by focusing on all things that are wrong with the war on Iraq. The only thing that let's this film down is Greengrass' over use of the HD shakey cam 95% of the movie is shot that way. I can understand why Greengrass used the Shakey cam as it gives a real perspective on how the soldiers are running etc but not every scene for dam sakes.

BD: For Your Eyes Only (1981) ~ ~ ~ ~

Picture quality isn't as sharp as it was on the Moonraker BD but still it's a night and day difference against the Ultimate Edition DVD.

Cinema: Predators (2010) ~ ~ ~ ~

Fun movie! Not as perfect as the original but who realistically expected THAT? It's a little better than Predator 2 (which I've always enjoyed, a cult classic), and waaaaaaay better than the Alien Vs. Predator crap fests.

TV: Dan in Real Life (2007) ~ ~

I found the awkwardness of this comedy overall quite charming, despite the films predictability. Although with the mix of comedy and serious/meaningful moments, it struggles to go in any real direction.

DVD: Memento (2000) ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

This film was amazing! It was completely engaging... Unforgettable. ;)
